The formation of The Council of the Mar Thoma Parishes in Europe (COMPE) was based on the long-term needs of the region. The formation of COMPE was ratified through due process of the constitution of the Mar Thoma Church, Clause 217, at the Diocesan Assembly meeting held in Atlanta, Georgia on 17th April 2010 and confirmed by the Episcopal Synod on 18th May 2010.
UK & Europe became an independent Zone on 01 November 2017. The constitution of the zone was proposed and passed at the Episcopal Synod in January 2018. The Zone has been elevated as 14th Diocese of Mar Thoma Church on 1st January 2024 by the decision of the Episcopal Synod.The Diocese is presided by the Diocesan Bishop Rt. Rev. PD Dr.Joseph Mar Ivanios Episcopa
The Diocesan Bishop is assisted by the Diocesan Assembly and the Diocesan Council, elected by the Diocesan Assembly. All parishes in the Diocese are represented in the Assembly. The Diocesan Assembly comprises of the residing Vicars in the Diocese and Diocesan assembly members from the parishes, representatives from auxiliary organisations and Nominated Members. The duration of the Assembly will be the same as that of the Mar Thoma Sabha Prathinidhi Mandalam.
The Diocesan Bishop is the President of the Assembly and the Council. Both the Assembly and the Council have an elected secretary and trustee. The Diocesan Assembly takes appropriate decisions for the development of the Diocese, and also passes the annual report, accounts and budget of the Diocese. The Diocesan Council implements the decisions of the Assembly in addition to assisting and advising the Diocesan Bishop.
The Diocese comprises of 25 parishes and 5 congregations which are supported by 18 Clergies.
